Transferring from another phone

Maps that you've bought through the ViewRanger store or from a retailer for another phone can be transferred to the iPhone.

Software

First buy and install the ViewRanger software from the Apple app store - that's the only way to install software on the iPhone The software includes a full token's worth of credit to use to download new maps of your own choice.

Activation / License key

If the map is already activated on another phone then please email support to get a new license key. Please include the iPhone's UDID and the email address you used to first activate.

You can get the UDID by running iTunes and connecting your iPhone. Click on the device on the left hand side column. In the main window look at the Summary tab. Towards the top you'll see a line saying "Serial:" followed by a short string - click on it so it changes to "Identifier (UDID)" followed by a long string, then use the copy short cut Ctrl-C or Apple key-C. When you paste into the email you should get the 40 character UDID matching what is displayed in iTunes.

Copying maps to the iPhone

You can upload your maps to the phone using the wifi web interface. There are details in the user manual and below. If you transfer a ZIP file, ViewRanger on the iPhone will unpack it. So if sending a number of maps it may be best to ZIP up your maps and send them across in one go.

To transfer maps to the iPhone:

  1. Run ViewRanger on the iPhone. Press the Organizer button at the bottom left. Go into Import/export.

  2. Switch on the wifi file interface switch. A web address will then be shown just below the switch, something like http://192.168.1.106:8080

  3. On the computer go to a web browser and enter that full web address, including the http and the 8080. A form will appear with the ViewRanger logo at the top.

  4. Use the Browse or Choose file button to select your map or ZIP file, then press the Upload button.

  5. You'll see a progress bar on the iPhone as the file is received. If it is a ZIP file then once transferred it will be extracted.

If the web form does not appear then check carefully you have typed in the correct URL including all its punctuation. If it is correct then check the firewall settings on your computer and wireless router.
